Volunteers are our most precious resource. During the shelter season, it takes approximately 60 volunteers per week to shelter, feed and provide a safe environment for our clients. Volunteers are needed for the following positions:
Intake - The intake process begins at 6:00. During intake the volunteer meets with the clients, completes an application for the shelter, and processes the drug and alcohol screening.
Meal - Each night volunteers provide a warm meal for the shelter clients. Meal volunteers arrive at the shelter no later than 6:30 pm, serve a meal, fellowship with the clients and clean up the dining area before leaving. The meal volunteers also provide a breakfast meal for the clients the following morning.
Overnight - Currently we have 2 full time and one part time paid staff who operates the shelter each week, but we still have needs for volunteers for client intake, meals, and each Friday and Saturday from 7:00pm - 11:00pm to provide a social time that may include movies, music and snacks. Our overnight staff and volunteers stay at the shelter during the overnight hours . The overnight duties include staying awake through the night and monitor the facility. In addition, they must assist with smoke breaks, lights out and wake up call.
There are always other ways to volunteer with the shelter. We are always in need of cleaning volunteers and landscaping work.
The Shelter is currently open October through April. Athough we are only open on a limited schedule each year our goal is to eventually operate year round.
